By contrast, Musa cultivars with firmer, starchier fruit are called "plantains". In the US, as of 2019, these bananas, by poundage, are the most consumed fresh fruit. Especially in the Americas and Europe, "banana" usually refers to soft, sweet, dessert bananas, particularly those of the Cavendish group, which are the main exports from banana-growing countries. Worldwide, there is no sharp distinction between "bananas" and "plantains". As of 2023, India was producing nearly 30.5 million tons of bananas each year, a little less than 20 million tons more than China. The world's largest producers of bananas in 2017 were India and China, which together accounted for approximately 38% of total production. They are grown in 135 countries, primarily for their fruit, and to a lesser extent to make fiber, banana wine, and banana beer, and are sometimes even grown as ornamental plants. Musa species are native to tropical Indomalaya and Australia, and are likely to have been first domesticated in New Guinea. The old scientific name for this hybrid, Musa sapientum, is no longer used. The scientific names of most cultivated bananas are Musa acuminata, Musa balbisiana, and Musa × paradisiaca for the hybrid Musa acuminata × M. balbisiana, depending on their genomic constitution. Almost all modern edible seedless ( parthenocarp) bananas come from two wild species – Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana. The fruits grow upward in clusters near the top of the plant. The fruit is variable in size, color, and firmness, but is usually elongated and curved, with soft flesh rich in starch covered with a rind, which may be green, yellow, red, purple, or brown when ripe. In some countries, bananas used for cooking may be called "plantains", distinguishing them from dessert bananas. A banana is an elongated, edible fruit – botanically a berry – produced by several kinds of large herbaceous flowering plants in the genus Musa. It's a shame that Pocket for Mac doesn't have a grid view like their website does, which provides a more visual experience with large header images. There's a search field at the bottom left so you can quickly search your articles and tags. The interface of Pocket is minimalistic but still retains all the functions of its mobile apps such as sharing, adjusting text size, and tagging. Pocket for Mac can decide whether the article or web view is the best and will cache that for you. This means you can have all of your articles like a newspaper, ready to read, even if you're not connected to the internet. Not everyone can be connected to the internet at all times so it's great to see that Pocket for Mac automatically downloads all of your articles for offline viewing. You can either view the article as you would on the web, or you can choose to read it in " article view" where ads, and other parts of the webpage are stripped out, leaving only text and photos. Click on an article and it will expand on the right side. Informant Sync requires a separate subscription. Includes access to: Google Calendar and Tasks, Toodledo, and Informant Sync. You can manage your calendar events and tasks right on your macOS. Articles will show up in a column on the left. Based on our award-winning Pocket Informant for iOS - Informant is now designed for macOS. Just last week, we showed you a cute DIY hardware project with a simulated Macintosh interface on an e-ink screen.Pocket for Mac is a good recreation of the mobile apps but takes advantage of the screen real estate of a laptop or desktop. You can read the blog here about the creation and operation of the emulators, and try each one here: The emulators also support persistence, so any files you create and save should remain (the usual disclaimers apply, with this feature offered on a best-endeavors basis). To get files out, the reverse process can be used, where files in a special “Uploads” folder are watched, and when new ones appear, the contents are sent to the browser (as a single zip file in the case of directories). That worked out well, especially once I switched a custom lazy file implementation and fixed encoding issues. It thus seemed possible to handle files being dragged into the emulator by reading them on the browser side and sending the contents over to the worker where the emulator runs, and creating them in a “Downloads” folder. In this case the host is the pseudo-POSIX file system that Emscripten creates, which has an API. It was at that point that I knew I’d better not spend any time there in working hours: I loved Hypercard, and basically ran my life in it.Ĭreator Mihai Parparita based his work on James Friend’s in-browser ports of the Basilisk II and PCE.js emulators, and created a neat interface between the emulators and the modern world.īasilisk II supports mounting a directory from the “host” into the Mac (via the ExtFS module). Classic Mac Games such as Glider, Lemmings, and the Marathon series are included, and if you really want to get nostalgic, both emulators come with HyperCard. Macworld reports that you can run original versions of a lot of classic Mac software.īoth emulators include old versions of Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Word, Nisus Writer, Adobe Photoshop, KidPix, MacPaint, and a lot more. (In theory, you can run them on an iPhone too, but there isn’t enough screen space to do so.) As they run in a browser, they run on any machine, whether M1 Mac, Intel Mac, or PC. There are two versions, one for System 7 and the other for Mac OS 8, which laid the foundations for what would become Mac OS X, later renamed to OS X and then to macOS. For the older ones among us, it’s a nostalgic trip down memory lane, while for younger readers it’s an interesting peek into the history of the machines we use today.Ī couple of years ago saw a Mac app to run Mac OS 8 on a virtual Quadra 900, and now there’s another Quadra emulator running entirely in a browser … There’s always a surprising amount of interest in Mac emulators for classic Macintosh and vintage Mac machines. In June, at the height of the protests surrounding the death of a Black man named George Floyd at the hands of a white Minnesota police officer, President Donald Trump alluded to the Insurrection Act as a means of calling up active duty troops to quell civil unrest as protest erupted across the country. “The purpose of utilizing the mechanisms of insurrection act is to enforce the law, not replace it.” “One of the important things to remember about the Insurrection Act is that it’s not martial law,” Banks said. If the situation does not resolve itself, the President may issue an executive order to send in troops,” according to a 2006 Congressional Research Service report. In order to invoke the Insurrection Act, the president “must first issue a proclamation ordering the insurgents to disperse within a limited time, 10 U.S.C. Though purely a hypothetical, Banks notes that the way it would happen would be through the Insurrection Act. “The sort of hellish scenarios that some people talk about is one where the president orders or regular military armed forces the United States to take over cities that he believes are engaged in an unlawful election, disruption or protests in the wake of an unresolved presidential election in the days after November 3," Banks noted. “That’s not extraordinary, nor would it be if the President federalized the National Guard for similar reasons, responding to a need to disseminate vaccines next winter, for example, would be perfectly appropriate, lawful, not martial law.” “Governors call the National Guard all the time to respond to a storms or power outages, delivering medical supplies, stuff going on even during COVID,” Banks said. “Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That in all cases of insurrection, or obstruction to the laws, either of the United States, or of any individual state or territory, where it is lawful for the President of the United States to call forth the militia for the purpose of suppressing such insurrection, or of causing the laws to be duly executed, it shall be lawful for him to employ, for the same purposes, such part of the land or naval force of the United States, as shall be judged necessary, having first observed all the pre-requisites of the law in that respect.”īut activating the National Guard even under federal Title 32 status, in which the federal government helps pay for Guard troops under state control, does not fall under the Insurrection Act, nor does it equate to martial law in ordinary circumstances. by the ordinary course of judicial proceedings,” according to U.S. makes it impracticable to enforce the laws of the U.S. One exception to Posse Comitatus, however, is the Insurrection Act, which allows the use of active-duty or National Guard troops for federal law enforcement in cases when “rebellion against the authority of the U.S. However, National Guard units, which take their direction from state governors, are exempt from the Posse Comitatus Act. That act prevents troops from enforcing domestic law, preventing such actions as searching and seizing property or dispersing crowds. Though initially it only applied to the Army, it has been amended to include the Defense Department and, of course, the other service branches. The Posse Comitatus Act, passed on June 18, 1878, prevented federal troops from supervising Confederate state elections during Reconstruction. I find myself seconds behind because I feel like I'm piloting a cruise ship, not an F1 car. However, that's where it stops, besides somewhat decent graphics. I'm a big fan of this era and I like that they added a 2014 option in the game (Because 2014 was so bad). Poor wheel and pedal support too make it pretty bad to calibrate and use effectively. The graphics on the cars look pretty decent, but by god, the drivers, look like they've just emerged from hell, the podium smile is terrifying. 5/10į1 2016 - Being an older game, the handling feels less realistic, and difficulty levels are set by 5 different levels as opposed to that wonderful 0-110 slider we all have a love-hate relationship with, which makes it impossible to fine-tune the AI to your speed. Handling feels off, AI is the devil spawn of Daniil Kvyat and you may as well be driving a Ferrari 312 against 19 F2004's. No classic cars, and the ridiculous over-monetization (Yes F1 Life, I'm looking at you) for things so incomprehensibly useless that no sane person in their right mind would ever purchase just make this one of the worst games I've ever played. Where to start? It may have the best graphics, but MyTeam has still been left in a poor state with a few useless additions, however, I like the entry positions option they added. I've also had so many wheel calibration and support issues that this falls from probably 3rd to 5th. AI is ridiculously fast and unpredictable in terms of speed compared to previous games, as well. 8/10į1 2021 - The graphics are among the best in the series, but this game lacks in MyTeam development from the previous game, instead focussing on a pretty lackluster story mode with a predictable plotline. 3rd and 4th are the closest and I'd probably rank them equally. I don't know how to explain it though, but F1 2017 just feels slightly better in terms of handling. 8/10į1 2018 - 2018 is much like 2017, but with better graphics, which I absolutely love. Classic cars implemented is one of the best features of this game compared to 2016, they all feel absolutely great. The handling feels great, the graphics look alright, and it just feels much better than 2016 in every way. 8.5/10į1 2017 - Just started playing F1 2017 and it instantly stands out. I can also use my own driver number, 6, now that Latifi is gone! :) Overall game performance is alright with occasional stutters on my 2019 entry level gaming PC, and graphics are good. Haven't played online yet so I can't comment on that. Story mode is pretty standard and is too easy if you're more than a casual player. I feel like I can race the AI cars hard now, unlike F1 22 where they were either too fast, too slow or just too aggressive. It's miles ahead of F1 22 in terms of the handling model and the AI. 8.5/10į1 23 - I've been playing F1 23 since a few weeks after launch. More classic cars than F1 2020 (Seriously, those 70's cars are huge fun), lots of tracks, but no MyTeam. The graphics are great and it feels like F1 2020, maybe a bit easier to handle the cars in this game. 9.5/10į1 2019 - F1 2019 is like the slightly less refined younger brother of F1 2020. Welcome to my ranked list of every F1 game I've ever played, along with some thoughts on how they feel compared to other F1 games in the series! If you disagree with an assessment, tell me why! I put this out here to see what other people think about where I ranked these games and why I ranked them the way I did.į1 2020 - Feature-rich, great graphics, classic cars, and championships, plus the introduction of MyTeam make this the best F1 game I've ever played. TRM is actively tracking multiple actors and exploits that have occurred over the last several months connected to NFT drops. What can be done to counteract NFT fraud? TRM is collaborating with law enforcement and industry partners to provide additional details on this investigation. This is the largest known NFT rug pull to date across any blockchain. On-chain analysis by TRM has identified approximately $2 million USD worth of Solana stolen by the Baller Ape Club from investors. Screenshot of the Baller Ape Club NFT launch site The NFT mint website launched by IconicsSOL was mini-guysonfleekco, suggesting that IconicsSol was actually a rebrand of the Mini Guys NFT. TRM reviewed on-chain flows associated with the IconicsSOL NFT drop and found that users submitted 0.5 SOL over a period of three minutes before the website refreshed with a sold out message. Last week, the IconicsSOL NFT drop opened with a mint price of 0.5 SOL. A rug pull is a malicious maneuver in the cryptocurrency industry where crypto developers abandon a project and run away with investors’ funds. Last week, we investigated two NFT rug pull incidents that totaled approximately $2.5 million in losses for victims. In some cases attackers tricked individuals into revealing their private keys. These attacks originate from various access points, including social media direct messages, encrypted chat apps, SMS texts, and solicitation through email to download attachments, or visit a phishing website. Over the last several months, TRM investigators have identified a significant increase in attacks targeting Non-Fungible Token (NFT) consumers. As a blockchain analytics company focused on monitoring, detecting and investigating crypto fraud and financial crime, TRM routinely alerts our clients - crypto exchanges, financial institutions and government agencies - to new threats that could target their systems and end-users. |
